February 19th, 2021. Volleyball Australia (VA) is seeking applications for a National Pathways Manager to be based in the VA Office at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. The Pathways Manager will lead implementation of VA’s Pathways strategy, with the objective of identifying and developing sufficient quantity of international calibre athletes to drive National Team success in Volleyball and Beach Volleyball.
Volleyball Australia (VA) is pleased to welcome Paul Smith to the team, in the role of National Pathways Manager. Paul brings with a wealth of knowledge and experience, having been an international beach volleyball coach at three Olympic Games (Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004) as well as at numerous World Championship and FIVB World Tour events.
Athletes will graduate to the next level of the pathway where options include the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, North American college and European professional clubs. Volleyball Australia Pathways 2022-2024
Beyond the National Intensive Training Centre Program (NITCP), national junior teams and AIS program, player development largely relies on the competition pathway both within Australia and overseas. A point often raised during this review was that while there were numerous competition opportunities, the quality of competition is not always complementary to the development needs of athletes.

Volleyball WA’s Athlete Pathway utilises the Australian Institute of Sport’s FTEM framework, allowing the sport to provide participants with multiple access points. Utilising the Foundational, Talented, Elite and Mastery headings, Volleyball WA have developed a pathway document to highlight how Volleyball is a game for all. Athlete Pathway
